VIP Car Care - a life of loving cars
Published on 15 December 2024
Did you know that old, crumpled window tint can mean a failure of your pink slip? What about the impact a minor dent or paint imperfection can have on the bodywork? Helping Grandad out after school has become a career for the owner of VIP Car Care.
Jared Taylor works with his brother, Steven, and is guarded by the tail-chasing red heeler, Bingo. Their focus is on window tinting, detailing (including leather and fabric protection), paint protection, paint correction, and minor paint repairs. While Jared is in the Parkes workshop, Steven is mobile, driving across the Parkes Shire and beyond to Condobolin, Tomingley, and Canowindra. While Steven is only able to offer detailing and tinting as a mobile service due to the complexity of other processes, he says, "I love driving, and there's something laid back about the people because I'm going to them."
They are both kept busy, booking cars two weeks in advance.
Window tint is a two-layered plastic film that adheres to your windows. Over time, the layers can separate, causing bubbles or tears. These blemishes can become a safety hazard as they can obscure your view through side or rear windows. If they get bad enough, they can mean a pink slip (the annual safety check required on all NSW cars) not being granted until repaired. The film can also discolour over time and lose its sun protection factor. Removing and reapplying new film to all windows is the only way to repair this damage, as the new film will never match the film on any undamaged windows.
Paint imperfections caused by dents and small patches of rust can impact the vehicle's structure, compromising the ability to absorb the impact should it occur. Those minor scratches and dents may cause a higher likelihood of structural collapse if you are in an accident or collision. Rust can also seem minor on the surface but may be causing deeper issues depending on the patch's location. Jared says, "It's worth getting those minor dings inspected and repaired as soon as possible; it could prevent serious harm and huge expense over time."
Jared recently partnered with VIP Car Care after many years working for home as Busted Knuckle. He gave up his career in the Corrective Services of NSW to work in his own business and spend more time with his young family. "After years of shiftwork, my priorities changed to family first." The partnership has given him access to more and higher quality products that aren't available in the home market, meaning he can now provide a broader range of high-quality products and finishes. "I love spending time bringing a car to a high shine".
As a child, Jared and his three brothers spent many hours with his grandfather, Ronald Taylor, tinkering, repairing, and cleaning his Holden VL Commodore until "she purred". He clearly remembers being directed to hold steel ramps as a young man on the lawn, and when the ramps and spinning wheels started ripping up the damp grass, Grandad was furious. "He was very proud of his grass!" While Jared can laugh about it now, at the time, it wasn't so funny, but it never dampened his spirit for working with cars.
Now, his ten-year-old son helps out with detailing at times, and his two-year-old daughter is already showing a love of cars. The child-size pink Mercedes in the corner of the workshop also shows that she might have expensive taste in automobiles.
The future for this local, small, family business is to become a larger family business.
