Parkes Shire is a pristine location for new investment, with the Parkes Special Activation Precinct and the Inland Rail projects progressing. To maintain Parkes' country charm during this period of growth and change, Parkes Shire Council has been proactive in developing strategies and plans to support the Shire's sense of community while encouraging new investment in the region.
Key investment-related strategies
Parkes 2035+: The Community Strategic Plan(PDF, 27MB) is the Shire's long-term aspiration to create a more connected, vibrant and sustainable shire. Looking to the year 2035, the plan synthesises over 800 ideas, suggestions and comments from the community.
The Local Strategic Planning Statement(PDF, 8MB) sets the basis for strategic planning in the Shire regarding economic, social and environmental matters. The statement identifies the planning priorities, actions and indicators to ensure continued implementation and revision.
The Middleton Masterplan(PDF, 39MB) guides the future urban residential development within Parkes. The plan identifies how residential release areas will support population growth and integrate and enhance the existing community whilst ensuring coordinated delivery of high-quality, sustainable and accessible public infrastructure.
The Parkes CBD Vibrancy Strategy(PDF, 16MB) has formed an ongoing town centre urban renewal project. The actions identified throughout the strategy enhance the sense of place that captures the past and present, its unique natural attributes, rural setting and lifestyle
The Mid-Lachlan Regional Economic Development Strategy articulates the opportunities of the functional economic mid-Lachlan region, encompassing Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Councils and articulating a framework for identifying actions crucial to achieving a progressive and prosperous regional community.
DNCW Destination Management Plan 2022-2030(PDF, 10MB) guides the work that Destination Central West NSW will champion over the coming years to stimulate the economic prosperity, create new jobs and enhance the lifestyles of the people within our unique region.
Parkes Special Activation Precinct Masterplan is developed around the Structure Plan and is the statutory document that brings together the vision, sub-precincts, land uses and performance criteria of the Special Activation Precinct.
